​I am pleased to provide this letter of recommendation for Burt Hodgdon and Pipestone Builders.  Previously, I have had a 6400 square foot house built from the ground up and have done three extensive remodels on other homes so I have been involved with several builders/contractors.  My husband was in the real estate business and has dealt with numerous contractors.  We believe that Burt ranks with the best.
 
My husband and I own a 60 year old home in north Asheville; as with most homes of this age, there is lots of renovation to be done.  The first job we hired Burt to perform was to move an enclosed stairway to the basement from a very bad location in the kitchen to a hallway/closet.  We interviewed three licensed contractors, thinking that we knew where the new stairway should be located.  Burt came in, looked at our proposed location for the new stairway and immediately said that our idea would not meet the building code. He then spent some time working with us to find an acceptable location.  Neither of the other contractors recognized this problem even after we asked them if they had any issues with our proposed location.  Upon investigation, Burt turned out to be correct.  At that point, we obviously had faith that Burt really knew what he was doing.
 
Anyone who has lived in the midst of a remodeling project knows that it will be intrusive, messy and disruptive, especially when a kitchen is involved.  Once work began, Burt and his workers proved to be mindful of keeping the disruptions to a minimum.  As work progressed it was apparent that Burt and crew were meticulous in execution.  The house has lovely old floors which needed to be preserved, rounded doorways that had to be matched, old mouldings that had to be saved and reused ---- all issues which come with remodeling an older home.  Burt was very careful to preserve these elements and his work was very well done.
 
This coming winter, we will have Burt completely gut our kitchen from floor to ceiling and install everything from floor to cabinets to backsplash.  Based on our first experience, we are confident that Burt will continue to provide great service while being a pleasure to work with.

​Whenever I've talked to someone who has been through the experience of having a new home constructed, I have usually heard a litany of complaints and nightmares.  Well, gratefully, I'm not one of them. 
 
I selected Pipestone Builders to build my new home after my first meeting with both Pat Aippersbach and Burt Hodgdon.  From the very first, they came across as professional, experienced as well as personable.  I have been enjoying my new home, built by them, for 19 months now.
 
In hindsight, working with them and watching my new home evolve was practically enjoyable.  Of course there were a few bumps along the way, with something as dynamic as the construction of any new home, something unexpected is bound to happen.  It's not so much what happens as how it is handled.  Pat, Burt and their crew went out of their way to make this significant investment as smooth and stress free for me as possible.
 
During construction, inspectors would comment on the quality of the construction of my home compared to what they have seen from their experience.  Since moving in, my friends and family that work or are familiar with the construction industry have commented on how well built my home  is and have been very impressed.
 
During and even after completion, Pat and Burt continued to go beyond expectations to help me settle in and make sure the house met my approval and my tiniest issues were addressed (and I'm very picky).
